Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G Deals

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G is everything you would like, and zip else. Samsung pared down its flagship S20 series to a more palatable $699.99 price, and therefore the results a value-minded standard-bearer to properly confront the forthcoming iPhone 12 line. With fast performance, solid cameras, and sometimes substantial discounts at major wireless providers, the S20 FE 5G becomes our default Android phone recommendation for 2020, also as our Choice.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G: Price and release date

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE features a price of $699 and has a release date of Oct. 2, 2020. It comes in only one configuration, with 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. Though owners can expand storage by up to 1TB with a microSD card.

The Galaxy S20 FE is out there through AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon The Verizon variant, dubbed Galaxy S20 FE 5G UW.  Carries the carrier’s millimeter-wave 5G network for faster speeds in town areas.

Some retailers have already got the Galaxy S20 FE on sale for $599, or $100 off. And we have seen the Galaxy S20 FE for as low as $529. inspect the simplest Galaxy S20 FE deals thus far.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G: Design

At a look, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition looks almost like the Galaxy S20. It’s an identical rectangular rear camera block and a front-facing snapper within the same position as on the S20. But once you look closer the differences begin to seem.

Firstly, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is greater than the S20, with dimensions of 159.8 x 74.5 x 8.4mm (that’s 8.1 x 5.4 x 0.5mm quite the S20). Secondly, the sides of the screen don’t curve in the least. Therefore the phone doesn’t feel as comfortable within the hand. Although given how that styling feature is often quite divisive. But some might not mind that they’re missing out.

The back of the phone is slightly rounded, and this makes up for the shortage of the curved-screen edges in terms of in-hand feel to some extent. Although we’d still like better to have the latter. Instead, there’s a skinny but noticeable bezel around the screen. This design feature tends to point out in lower-end handsets, and intrinsically it makes the Galaxy S20 FE look a touch cheap, and there’s one other design choice that adds to the marginally ‘budget’ feel.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G
Premium Glass Back

The Galaxy S20 FE’s back is formed of Samsung’s ‘Glasstic’, plastic that’s designed to seem and feel more like premium glass. The trick doesn’t work. However, Glasstic is extremely clearly plastic in-tuned and feel, and it’s a questionable design choice for a phone that costs this much – we’ve seen Motorola phones for a fraction of the worth which feels more premium within the hand. Samsung has used Glasstic before within the Galaxy Note 20, and that we didn’t love it there. So it’s a shame the corporate saw fit to bring it back.

One possible upside is that the plastic back should withstand a touch more punishment than glass, and together with the IP68 rating (dustproof and submergible at 2 meters for up to 30 minutes). It means the FE may be a pretty hardy device.

Choice the colors

The phone comes in a wide choice of colors: Cloud Lavender (pink), Cloud Orange (pale orange), Cloud Red (red), Cloud Mint (blueish-green), Cloud White (white), and Cloud Navy (dark blue). That’s tons more options than you get with most phones, and this variety is great for people that find the limited choices for several phones too bland.

At the top-left of the phone’s rear is the camera bump. Which doesn’t stick out much, so you’ll lay the phone down almost flat on surfaces. On the proper fringe of the phone is the volume rocker, and below that’s the facility button. Which feels at the proper height to be easily accessible regardless of how large or small your hands are.

There’s a USB-C port here, but no 3.5mm headphone jack – this isn’t totally surprising, because the other S20 phones also lacked the port. But as long as a number of Samsung’s cheaper phones do have it, you’ll be forgiven for having expected to ascertain it here.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G: Display

I’m glad that the Galaxy S20 FE features a 120Hz display. Which I feel may be a better feature to bring over from the regular Galaxy S20 than its sharper Quad HD resolution. The S20 FE makes do with a Full HD+ screen with 2400 x 1800 pixels.

The 120Hz setting delivers smoother scrolling and better gameplay during a growing array of titles that support 120Hz panels. Thumbing through NYTimes.com was buttery smooth, and that I enjoyed fluid animation when playing Marvel Contest of Champions as I used Iron Man to fireside a laser at The Punisher.

Samsung’s OLED panel really shines when watching episodes of many interesting movies.  As Sam LaRusso crashed into a dessert table, the explosion of color really came through. And with pops of green, blue, brown, and orange.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G

The Galaxy S20 FE’s display performed well in Gadgetwaylife display tests. It hit a peak of 680 nits of brightness and Adaptive brightness is also available. Anything above 600 nits is sweet, but the regular Galaxy S20 reached a max of 857 nits.

This screen is additionally quite colorful because the S20 FE registered 133.3% of the DCI-P3 color space. Which is shy of the regular S20’s 162.5%. In terms of color accuracy, the Galaxy S20 FE fared slightly better than the Galaxy S20, notching a score of 0.3; a score of zero is ideal. The regular S20 hit 0.37, and therefore the iPhone 11 a far better 0.22.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G: Camera Performance

The Galaxy S20 FE is one among the foremost versatile camera phones for its worth, offering a trio of rear lenses, plus a front 32 MP camera for selfies. The back cameras contain a 12MP ultra-wide shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and a 123-degree field of view. There’s also a main 12MP camera (f/1.8) and an 8MP zoom lens with 3x optical zoom and 30x Space Zoom (digital).

I celebrated testing out the Space Zoom on the Manasquan River in New Jersey. I could concentrate on a ship from distance, and therefore the Galaxy S20 FE got me in close enough to form out the 2 passengers, and the sides of the vessel’s clearly grainy up close. But it’s still so impressive for a phone.

The Galaxy S20 FE also did a great job taking this close-up of a portulaca flower. The pink came out darker than the real world. But I appreciated the extent of detail within the water droplets around the petal.

Image Quality

The Galaxy S20 FE also performed well once I took several shots at a close-by park. Once I shot a photograph on a hiking trail, the S20 FE rendered the trees and leaves with pretty sharp detail, and therefore the sunny sky didn’t blow out the shot.

I next challenged the Galaxy S20 FE with an attempt of trees during a shadowy foreground, a rippling river within the center, and a line of trees and puffy clouds within the background. Overall, the exposure looks pretty much balanced, and this is often a pic I might be happy to share.

The Galaxy S20 FE delivered a brighter photo of this tree darkly with its Night mode. The lights on the proper side are a touch blown out, but overall you’ll figure out more detail within the brick, trees, and grass in Samsung’s photo.

The 32 MP selfie camera on the Galaxy S20 FE gives you a traditional and ultra-wide option for max flexibility. This comes in handy once you want to suit more people within the shot.

We must admit

Samsung says this selfie shooter uses what’s called tetra binning (which combines four pixels into one to capture more light) and a re-mosaic algorithm (which remaps pixels into a standard color pattern for producing more detailed pics in bright conditions).

In my testing, I found that the Galaxy S20 FE had a bent to smooth my face. Though I’m not complaining about an excessive amount. My blue shirt certainly pops and there is a good amount of detail in my hair.

I also tried out the Galaxy S20 FE’s Super Steady mode. Which is meant to minimize camera shake when you’re in motion. I noticed only a small difference with the setting when walking at a moderate pace. So Super Steady is perhaps best for more rigorous activities and action sports.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G: Performance

The Galaxy S20 FE packs a Snapdragon 865 processor and pairs that with 6GB of RAM, which is half the maximum amount because of the 12GB within the regular Galaxy S20. you furthermore may get 128GB of storage, which is expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card.

In my everyday use, I found the Galaxy S20 FE to be quite responsive, whether I used to be switching between a dozen open apps or racing round the track in Asphalt 9. I did notice a touch of lag when exiting the house screen sometimes, but overall the S20 FE has performed well so far.

In Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance, the Galaxy S20 FE scored 2,928 within the multi-core test. That’s less than the Galaxy S20, which notched 3,147. The iPhone 11 reached a score of three,251.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G

In our GFXBench graphics testing (Aztec Ruins Vulkan test off-screen). The Galaxy S20 FE reached 1,325 frames (25 frames per second). The regular Galaxy S20 hit 1,319 and therefore the iPhone 11 1,481.

To test the Galaxy S20 FE’s real-world performance, we transcoded a 4K video to 1080p after applying an impact and transition in Adobe Premiere Rush. The Galaxy S20 FE took 1 minute and 21 seconds. Which is behind the regular S20’s 1:15. The iPhone 11 took only 46 seconds.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G: Software

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition comes with Android 10 built-in. Though you’ll be ready to download Android 11 when it rolls bent Samsung’s phones, likely towards the top of 2020. Before the Galaxy S20 FE’s launch, Samsung promised that future phones would get a minimum of three years of Android updates. So you’ll definitely get Android 12 and 13, and maybe beyond.

Android 10’s key features include a system-wide Dark Mode. Which you’ll enable from the Settings menu, Digital Wellbeing tools, and ‘Bubbles’ that enable you to display messages from communication apps over other apps that you simply have open.

The Galaxy S20 FE OS has OneUI laid over the highest, which is Samsung’s own Android ‘fork’. unlike most custom UIs, the changes this brings are mainly visual, but OneUI also offers many customization options, more so than many other overlays.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G

For example, there’s an outsized range of widgets available for the house screen, downloadable themes. Therefore, the choice to change the font of all the text on the phone. Navigating the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE menus and residential pages felt snappy, because of both the processor and refresh rate, and that we were never left expecting apps to load, or for the device to get at with our swiping fingers.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G: Battery Life

The Galaxy S20 FE should last you thru most of your day on a charge. But it didn’t last as long as we expected given the dimensions of its battery. It’s equipped with a 4,500 mAh battery. Which is greater than the 4,000 mAh pack within the Galaxy S20 and therefore the same size because of the Galaxy S20 Plus.

After unplugging at 7 a.m. and using the Galaxy S20 FE in day-to-day use for hours. It still had 55% juice left at 4:16 p.m, which is so good.

However, on our web surfing battery test, which involves continuous web surfing at 150 nits of screen brightness. The Galaxy S20 FE lasted only 8 hours and 58 minutes over AT&T’s 5G network and 9:03 on Verizon’s LTE network. (I do not have Verizon 5G in New Jersey). The handsets on our greatest phone battery life list all last 11 hours or more.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G

By comparison, the regular Galaxy S20 lasted a rather longer 9:31 over T-Mobile’s network, and therefore the iPhone 11 endured for a whopping 11:16. Note that these tests were run with the Galaxy S20 FE’s display set to 60Hz; the 120Hz setting can reduce battery life by 2 or more hours supported by our testing.

The Galaxy S20 FE ships with a 15W charger. Which is notably slower than the 25W charger which comes with the regular Galaxy S20. On our testing, the phone reached 16% charge in quarter-hour and 35% in half-hour. you’ll buy a 25W charger for faster charging with the FE, but it’s getting to cost you a further $29.

Verdict

While the competition is heating up for flagship phones that cost but $700, the Galaxy S20 FE remains to be tough to beat. It offers an enormous display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, strong cameras, and solid performance during a colorful design. I can affect the plastic back and most other trade-offs; I just wish Samsung included a more advanced ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and therefore the battery life was a touch longer.

The Galaxy S20 FE’s powerful zoom, especially, helps Samsung stand out against the likes of the Google Pixel 5 and iPhone 12. The Pixel 5 offers better photo quality. But its performance trails the S20 FE. And while the iPhone 12 is quicker than the S20 and also delivers better-looking photos, it doesn’t last as long on a charge and lacks a telephoto zoom.

Some may prefer the Samsung Galaxy S21, which costs $100 quite the Galaxy S20 FE. The Galaxy S21 offers a faster Snapdragon 888 chip, better image processing with its cameras, and a sleeker design. Samsung is reportedly performing on a Galaxy S21 FE  device that comes with a faster processor and other upgrades. But it likely won’t launch until July or August. Overall, the Galaxy S20 FE remains one of the simplest phones for cash.
